Tissue culture (TC) is a lab technique where plants are grown in sterile media under controlled conditions. This produces specimens that are guaranteed pest-free, snail-free, and algae-free — perfect for sensitive aquascapes and terrariums.

Remove the plant from the cup and gently rinse off the gel medium under room-temperature water. Separate into small portions and plant directly into your substrate. The gel is non-toxic — just wash it off before planting.

Not at all. TC plants are actually healthier since they start pest-free and disease-free. They may take 1–2 weeks to acclimate, but after that they grow normally. Beginner-rated plants like Monte Carlo and Rotala are great starting points.

It depends on the plant. Many of our plants grow fine without CO2. Check the care card on each product page — we note whether CO2 is highly recommended, recommended, or not needed.

Never release aquatic or terrestrial plants into local waterways, drainage, or wild areas — they can become invasive and harm native ecosystems. Instead, dry out unwanted plants completely and dispose of them in your regular household waste, or compost them if they’re fully dried. The agar gel from tissue culture cups is plant-based and non-toxic — rinse it down the drain or add it to compost.
